PASSAGES
Robert Blackburn, founder of the Printmaking Workshop in NYC, was a major influence in the printmaking community, and an expert in printmaking technique. Visiting the Printmaking Workshop in order to document his work was a great experience.

Fly Zone
Shahla’s ability to translate her deep personal understanding of war in her amazing art, and her unique view of the strained relations between Iran and the US made Fly Zone a fascinating project.

RECONSTRUCTION
An internationally renown artist and teacher, famous for his sculptures and wall pieces depicting his Alabama roots, I was honored to work with him on many projects including his Reconstruction book.

evolution

FINDING YOUR STYLE IN PASTEL
Jean is an expert pastel artist whose Finding your Style in Pastel represents one of the top reference books of the genre. Her subtly beautiful pieces are always amazing to see.

Journey into Design
John Kearns and Chong Kang met Chris McClelland many years ago, and subsequently, over a 10 year period, redesigned her McLean home, turning a pleasant house into an explosion of modern baroque style. It took months of photo sessions to create this book. They all made a hard job easy, and I am very proud of this collaboration.

HEARTS OF OAK & YANKEE PLUCK
Jim is an expert on the US Revolutionary War both in scholarship, and as a collector of objects ranging from long arms to manuscripts. Few people have achieved his level of mastery concerning this era. It took several years of sweat and labor, with my old fashioned 4×5 inch view camera, to make the images featured in Hearts of Oak and Yankee Pluck What an education!

MARGO HUMPHREY
Margo Humphrey’s printmaking has been described as “offering artful commentary on American culture, including food ways, folkways, spirituality, love and loss..” She is one of the artists connected to the David C, Driskell Center at the U of Maryland, and I consider myself lucky to have been able to work with her on this catalogue.

Schoonover
Meeting Louise and John Schoonover in 2000 was one of the great joys of my career. The grandchildren of Frank E Schoonover, an illustrative painter spanning the 20th century who was a student of Howard Pyle of the Brandywine School hired me to document almost 900 of his paintings in 9 different states over 10 years for this two volume catalogue raisonee.

TRADITION REDEFINED
Meeting Brenda and Larry Thompson was a genuine stroke of luck. These two discerning collectors of African American art have kept a large and important population of artists employed. Their diverse collection has traveled throughout the US, and I was fortunate to be selected to photograph the work included in Tradition Redefined.

The Watkins Collection
The Watkins Collection: This catalogue represents a wide selection of art comprising the Watkins Collection housed at the American University in DC. Working with the curators and staff at AU is always a pleasure.

THE FRANK COLLECTION
Howard and Jane Frank have a collection they call: “a showcase of the world’s finest fantastic art..” Paintings and sculptures ranging from science fiction to “other world erotica” fill their spacious McLean Va. home. This is truly one of the most unusual collections I have ever seen, and The Frank Collection displays it elegantly.

Guy Dill
I had the pleasure of shooting Dill’s monumental sculptures at the Katzen Sculpture Garden at AU in 2007. Working with everyone at the Katzen Museum over the years on many has been beyond great…

ILLUSTRATING MODERN LIFE
Mr. Kelly is a collector of paintings from the illustrative art era in the US. His 12,000 sq. foot home contains over 500 of the best examples of this genre in the world. I was lucky enough to be asked to document his collection in the late 90’s and Illustrating Modern Life is a result of one of our many sessions.
